Hart refutes the claim made in the 1911 edition of the Catholic Encyclopedia that the Three Witnesses denied their testimonies of the Book of Mormon plates. As evidence, he cites an 1883 interview of David Whitmer, the dying declaration of Martin Harris, and an affidavit testifying that, in a Michigan murder trial, Oliver Cowdery defended the Book of Mormon.
