Isaiah 35

35:3. This verse begins with strengthening the feeble hands and steadying the knees that give way. “Be strong and do not fear.” This is a reference to the second coming and continues, describing that time, with eyes of the blind being opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped and the lame leaping like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs. In the haunts where jackals once lay, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow (note that papyrus will only grow in water).

35:8–10. These verses describe a highway that will be there called “the way of holiness,” and only the clean will journey on it. It will be only for those who “walk in that way” [of holiness]. Wicked fools will not go about on it. No ferocious beasts will get up on it. Only the redeemed will walk there, and the ransomed of Jehovah will return. They will enter Zion with singing; sorrow and sighing will flee away. These will surely be those whom President Russell M. Nelson has often described as continuing on the covenant path.
